Ahmad Hardy reportedly suffered a gunshot wound while attending a concert in Mississippi over the weekend. University of Missouri confirmed on Monday that the football star underwent surgery and is now in stable condition.
In a statement, the university said: “Ahmad is deeply loved by his teammates, coaches, friends, family and fans. We will continue to stand beside him and his family through this difficult time, offering our love, prayers, strength and support.”
The junior running back was one of the standout performers for the Missouri Tigers football last season after transferring from University of Louisiana at Monroe. He reportedly rushed for 1,649 yards and scored 16 touchdowns during the campaign.
Authorities have not yet released details surrounding the shooting incident. According to reports, there is belief that the injuries Hardy sustained will not impact his football career long-term, though Missouri said a timeline for his return to football activities remains unknown.
The university added that more updates on Hardy’s condition would be provided when available. News of the shooting sparked concern across the college football community, with fans, teammates and fellow athletes sending messages of support to the player online.
