Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Wizkid has added another historic achievement to his career after becoming the first African artiste to surpass 11 billion streams on Spotify across all credits.
The major milestone was announced on Tuesday by music analytics platform Chart Africa in a post shared on X, where the platform celebrated the singer’s continued dominance on global streaming platforms.
Confirming the achievement, Chart Africa wrote: “Wizkid becomes the first African artist EVER to cross 11 Billion Spotify streams across all credits.”
The accomplishment further strengthens Wizkid’s reputation as one of the most commercially successful African musicians of his generation and highlights the increasing global reach of Afrobeats music.
The Grammy-winning singer has spent over a decade building an international career through chart-topping singles, sold-out tours, and collaborations with some of the biggest names in global music. Over the years, his music has consistently attracted millions of listeners across streaming platforms, helping African music gain wider acceptance worldwide.
A significant portion of Wizkid’s streaming success has been driven by global collaborations with international artistes including Drake, Beyoncé, Chris Brown, Justin Bieber and Tems.
His collaboration with Drake on the global hit “One Dance” remains one of the most streamed songs in Spotify history and played a major role in introducing Afrobeats to a larger international audience. Wizkid also gained further international recognition after featuring on Beyoncé’s “Brown Skin Girl,” a song that earned widespread acclaim and contributed to the global celebration of African culture and music.
Beyond collaborations, Wizkid’s personal discography has continued to generate massive numbers across streaming platforms. Albums such as Made in Lagos, More Love, Less Ego, and Morayo have all enjoyed strong international reception, with several tracks becoming fan favourites worldwide.
Songs like Essence, Ojuelegba, Come Closer, Fever and Joro have continued to perform strongly years after release, contributing heavily to the singer’s overall streaming numbers.
The latest milestone comes shortly after Wizkid released a new collaboration with longtime associate DJ Tunez titled State of Mind.
The track, released on May 15, 2026, reportedly recorded more than 685,000 streams globally on Spotify during its first full day on the platform. The strong debut further demonstrated Wizkid’s enduring popularity among listeners worldwide.
Fans and music lovers across social media have since reacted to the achievement, with many describing it as another major win for African music on the global stage.
Over the years, Wizkid has consistently broken records for African artistes on streaming services, touring platforms and international music charts. He was among the first Nigerian musicians to headline major venues across Europe and North America while also becoming one of the most streamed African artistes internationally.
Born Ayodeji Balogun, Wizkid rose to prominence in 2010 after releasing his breakout single Holla at Your Boy under Empire Mates Entertainment. Since then, he has grown into one of Africa’s most influential music exports, helping shape the global Afrobeats movement alongside other leading stars from the continent.
His latest Spotify achievement is being widely viewed as another reflection of how African music continues to expand globally, with Wizkid remaining one of the genre’s leading ambassadors.
