The Senior Special Assistant to Delta State Governor, Ovie Success Ossai, has expressed disappointment over Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s withdrawal from the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election, saying the decision could affect loyal supporters who invested resources and trust in his political journey.
In a post on his Facebook page on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, Ossai argued that political leaders should consider the expectations and sacrifices of grassroots mobilisers, campaign coordinators, and followers who contributed to their rise, insisting that abandoning the contest risks undermining their efforts and aspirations.
Ossai wrote, “Why make a decision that will destroy the destinies of the people who stood by you? If you weren’t ready to defend the people who risked their lives for you, you shouldn’t have started the fight in the first place. What now happened to people who risked their lives for you?”
Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State stepped down from the APC governorship primary scheduled for Thursday, a move that reshaped the party’s internal race.
His withdrawal was contained in a personally signed statement released on Wednesday night, in which he confirmed his exit and pledged support for the eventual party flag bearer.
The governor explained that his decision followed extensive reflection and consultations with family members, political associates, and close allies.
He noted that the move was influenced by the need to place the wider interest of Rivers State above personal political ambition.
Fubara emphasized leadership sometimes requires sacrifice, especially when such choices are aimed at fostering peace, unity, and political stability within the state.
He added development of Rivers State must remain the priority above individual aspirations.
He expressed appreciation to his supporters for their loyalty and encouragement throughout his political career, acknowledging the decision may disappoint many of them but maintained it was taken in good faith for the collective good.
Fubara extended gratitude to the All Progressives Congress for providing him the platform to participate in the process and thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his encouragement and support.
Fubara maintained his withdrawal should not be seen as weakness or defeat but as a deliberate decision aimed at promoting harmony in the state’s political environment.
He reaffirmed commitment to continue serving Rivers State within his current mandate, focusing on development, peace, and stability.
He further called on party members and supporters to remain calm and united as the APC proceeds with its primary election, urging focus on strengthening the party ahead of the forthcoming governorship election accordingly…..Read_More…
