Wambui, a mother from Kiambu County, has shared the heartbreaking story of how she only learned of her son’s death after preaching in church, unaware that he had been involved in a fatal accident that morning.
Wambui revealed that she conceived her son in her early twenties, but the father disappeared shortly after, leaving her to raise the child alone. She later married, but her son remained in the care of his grandmother. After completing secondary school, he trained as a driver and began working as a motorbike rider to support himself.
On that tragic Sunday, her son left home at 5 a.m. to work. According to eyewitnesses, a lorry with a mechanical fault collided with him as he attempted to prevent his motorbike from being crushed. The impact was fatal, and the accident left his body in a condition that required special arrangements for burial.
Shockingly, Wambui and her daughter were unaware of the incident while she led prayers and preached in church. Some congregants knew about the tragedy but did not inform her until later, adding to her grief.
Wambui’s story highlights the fragility of life and the deep emotional toll sudden tragedies can take on families.
