Abuja Land: Ex-Police Officer Honors Military Officer’s Bravery With N5000 From Pension Allowance

A retired Deputy Superintendent of Police, Chief Sunny Anyanwu (UGWUMBA), has announced a ₦5,000 donation from his monthly ₦49,000 pension to honour the young naval officer involved in the recent confrontation with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike. The gesture, shared in a public statement on his Facebook page, has drawn attention nationwide for its symbolism and message.

The donation follows Tuesday’s heated exchange between the minister and military personnel at a disputed plot of land in Abuja. The property, located in the Gaduwa area, has been at the centre of a controversy involving alleged illegal land conversion and enforcement resistance.

Chief Anyanwu said the officer’s conduct during the face-off reflected exceptional professionalism, discipline and composure—qualities he described as consistent with the finest traditions of the Nigerian Navy. He referred to the officer as his “Military Officer of the Year 2025,” praising him for standing firm in the line of duty.

In his statement, the retired officer explained that the symbolic gesture was meant to highlight integrity in uniformed service. He also urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to honour the naval officer with a national award, recommending the Commander of the Federal Republic (CFR) in recognition of what he called exemplary patriotism.

Chief Anyanwu concluded by celebrating all service members dedicated to upholding honour and discipline, noting that despite living on a modest pension, he remains committed to supporting courage and professionalism in Nigeria’s security institutions.
