According to a NewsVista reporter, former Jigawa State governor and prominent PDP chieftain, Sule Lamido, has made a bold political statement ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Lamido, who remains loyal to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), revealed he would back Labour Party’s Peter Obi — or anyone with a clear vision — if the newly formed ADC coalition picks them as its candidate.
Speaking after the Middle Belt Forum threw its weight behind Obi, Lamido said Nigeria’s next leader must be chosen based on competence and vision, not region or tribe.
“If the coalition produces Peter Obi or anyone committed to rescuing Nigeria, I will support them,” Lamido stated. “I remain PDP, but leadership shouldn’t be about geography. What has the North gained from producing the most presidents when the region is still underdeveloped?”
He also explained that PDP’s zoning formula — often used to rotate power between North and South — was originally created to heal national wounds after the annulment of the June 12 election. But now, he says, it has become a burden.
Meanwhile, the opposition has adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as the coalition platform for 2027, with Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar, and other leaders expected to unite against President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.
Lamido’s support signals a growing shift in Nigeria’s political landscape — one that prioritizes unity and national interest over party loyalty.
