Phyna, winner of the Big Brother Naija Level Up edition, has taken to Instagram to commemorate a poignant milestone:

the first birthday of her late sister Ruth Itabor’s son. Sharing a series of photos of the birthday boy, she wrote a heartfelt message:

“Happy 1st birthday. Your mum is deeply missed,” she said, adding prayers that he may“grow in light”.

The emotional celebration comes against the backdrop of the tragic accident in August that claimed Ruth’s life after she was involved in a crash with a truck linked to the Dangote Group. In her posts, Phyna had made strong allegations: she claimed the company told police officers to remove the truck’s number plate, stating:

“Na money you get, you no be God. But my God is bigger.” The incident sparked widespread attention and a response from the Dangote Group, which issued a statement affirming their “unwavering commitment … including comprehensive medical care and appropriate compensation” for Ruth’s injuries.

Sadly, Ruth passed away on Sunday, August 31 2025, after efforts to save her life. The family-released statement confirmed her death at approximately 6:30 a.m. and appealed for privacy as they grieved their loved one.

Undeterred by the pain of loss, Phyna chose this birthday to both honour Ruth’s memory and mark the celebration of her nephew’s life. Her message expressed hope that the young boy would “grow in light” and carry forward the legacy of his mother. In doing so, she intertwined remembrance with resilience—recognising that while the wound is real, love and memory continue to shine through.
