Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has called on Christians to not only place their faith in God but also in the prophets He sends as divine messengers. Speaking during a recent sermon, the respected cleric emphasized that obedience to both God and His prophets is essential for unlocking blessings and supernatural breakthroughs in a believer’s life.
“Believe not only God, but also His Prophet,” Pastor Adeboye said, stressing that God often works through chosen vessels to deliver His will to humanity. He explained that many believers struggle to see answers to prayers because, while they acknowledge God, they disregard His prophets. “When you believe in God, you are on the right path, but when you also believe His prophet, your prosperity is guaranteed,” he added, citing 2 Chronicles 20:20.
The cleric highlighted several biblical examples of divine blessings flowing through obedience to prophets. He recounted the story of Elijah and the widow of Zarephath, whose trust in the prophet’s instruction allowed her jar of oil to miraculously never run dry. Similarly, he noted, Naaman the leper received healing not because of the Jordan River itself, but because he obeyed the prophetic instruction of Elisha. Pastor Adeboye warned that pride and doubt can cause believers to ignore prophetic guidance, thereby missing God’s interventions.
Encouraging humility and discernment, he urged Christians to listen for the voice of God behind the words of His servants. “When a prophet speaks, don’t just look at the man; listen for the voice of God behind his words. The moment you despise the vessel, you miss the treasure,” he explained. He clarified that honouring prophets is not idol worship but a demonstration of trust in God’s divine order.
