According to a NewsVista report, Peter Obi has cleared the air on his political status following speculation over his alliance with the African Democratic Congress (ADC). Speaking in an interview aired on Sunday, July 6, 2025, the former Labour Party presidential candidate emphasized that he remains a loyal member of the Labour Party, despite being part of the ADC-led coalition aiming to unseat President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
Obi explained that the coalition, which includes several notable political figures, was formed to unite opposition voices for the good of Nigeria. “I’m still a member of the Labour Party. But we’ve adopted ADC as a platform to build a broader coalition that includes other parties and individuals. It’s about competence, character, and doing what’s right for the country,” he said.
Defending his collaboration with politicians he once criticized, Obi stated, “We need both the experience of those who failed and those who succeeded. This is about collective responsibility.”
However, the move has drawn sharp criticism from the presidency. Presidential aide Daniel Bwala accused Obi of hypocrisy, describing his coalition partners as the same “structure of criminality” Obi previously condemned. Bwala mocked the Obidient movement, saying their candidate now shifts alliances as “anywhere belle face.”
Despite the backlash, Obi remains firm. He recently declared his intention to run again in 2027 and outlined his first-100-day priorities: improving security, strengthening education, and tackling poverty.
