BREAKING: Tinubu Reportedly Strikes Deal to Reinstate Fubara — But There’s a Catch

In a major political twist, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reportedly agreed to reinstate Siminalayi Fubara as the governor of Rivers State—on the condition that he will not contest for a second term in 2027. According to NewsVista sources familiar with the matter, the agreement was reached during a highly confidential meeting held at the Presidential Villa on Thursday night.

The closed-door session brought together key political figures at the heart of Rivers State’s ongoing crisis, including Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT); Fubara himself; Martin Amaewhule, the suspended speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly; and a select group of lawmakers.

While the details of the conversation remain unofficial, insiders told NewsVista that the president brokered the peace deal in a bid to ease the escalating political tension in the oil-rich state. Fubara’s reinstatement is believed to come with the significant caveat that he will forfeit his right to seek re-election at the end of his current tenure.

The Rivers crisis, which has seen a deepening rift between Fubara and his predecessor-turned-political rival Wike, has drawn national attention and threatened stability in the state. Tinubu’s intervention is seen as a strategic move to prevent further political fallout within the ruling party and restore order before it spirals beyond control.

As of press time, no official statement has been released from the Presidency regarding the outcome of the meeting. However, NewsVista understands that both camps are under pressure to honor the agreement and avoid any further public confrontation.
