According to our report, Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, has reacted sharply to comments made by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who alleged that Christians in Nigeria are being targeted in a genocide.
Onanuga dismissed the claim, describing it as misleading and one-sided. He insisted that violence in Nigeria does not discriminate by religion, stressing that both Christians and Muslims are victims of terrorism and banditry.
“What we have are sporadic attacks by bandits and terrorists — and these assaults don’t target any religion. Churches and mosques are attacked randomly,” Onanuga said.
He emphasized that Muslim lives matter too, urging the U.S. to understand that Nigeria’s crisis is driven by insecurity, not religious persecution.
Onanuga added that what Nigeria truly needs from America is military and intelligence support, not labels or sanctions, to help defeat violent extremists.
He concluded that the Tinubu administration remains committed to protecting every Nigerian life, regardless of faith.
