Sunmbo Adeoye, wife of popular cleric Pastor David Adeoye and mother of two sons for legendary singer 2Baba, has spoken candidly about her personal journey, emotional struggles, and how faith helped her find healing and renewed purpose.
In a heartfelt interview with Morayo Afolabi Brown on The Morayo Afolabi Show, Sunmbo reflected on her past relationship, the challenges she faced, and the lessons she learned along the way. Speaking openly, she shared how she consciously refused to allow a difficult season to define her entire life.
According to her, she came to understand that every experience, no matter how painful, has meaning when aligned with divine purpose. She explained that embracing God’s plan helped her transform her pain into growth and clarity.
“That season taught me that God has a plan for everyone, but I saw that I chose not to equate a bad decision with a bad life. When you understand purpose, your pain will have a meaning,” she said.
Sunmbo also addressed how she moved forward when she eventually met her husband, Pastor David Adeoye. She explained that she deliberately resisted the urge to explain herself or seek validation from people. According to her, their union was not driven by pity, rescue, or any attempt to prove a point, but was divinely orchestrated.
“Just resist the news to shalaye. My husband was not on a rescue mission, and I wasn’t trying to prove a point. My husband was my divine compensation, orchestrated by God. It is the grace of God that allows it to outlast the gossip,” she stated.
Describing her surrender to God’s leading, Sunmbo said she abandoned personal plans and allowed God to take full control of her journey.
“If you ask me, Sunmbo, what precisely did to you, I surrender. I threw away the Google Map and said, ‘God, just navigate my journey the way you want it to be,’” she added.
She also opened up about the judgment and criticism she faced from family members, friends, and even church members. According to her, the backlash was painful, especially when it began to affect the church community.
“People left the church, and it hurt,” she admitted.
Despite the emotional toll, Sunmbo said her faith, marriage, and sense of purpose have helped her remain grounded. Over the years, she and her husband have consistently celebrated each other publicly, sharing moments that reflect deep affection, gratitude, and spiritual connection.
When Sunmbo turned 44 in November, Pastor David Adeoye penned a touching tribute, describing her as a priceless gift from God. He praised her for combining outward beauty with inner grace, brilliance, and deep commitment to God and His kingdom. He also thanked her for her heart of gold and for choosing to walk life’s journey with him.
In the days leading up to her birthday, the clergyman treated her to a surprise vacation abroad, which Sunmbo joyfully documented in a romantic video shared online. The clip drew admiration from fans and followers, who praised their enduring bond.
Their love story has continued to inspire many. On their 12th wedding anniversary in July, Pastor David poured out his heart, describing their years together as a season of love, joy, peace, and countless shared memories. He noted that he found victory in marrying her and promised to cherish, support, and adore her always.
Sunmbo, in return, reaffirmed her deep gratitude, once again describing her husband as her “divine compensation.” She said their marriage represents a fresh start she never imagined, and proof that God restores, renews, and rewards those who trust Him.
Looking back on their 10th wedding anniversary in July 2023, Sunmbo had also publicly thanked her husband for embracing her and her two sons wholeheartedly, loving them unconditionally, and building a home rooted in grace and compassion.
Through her story, Sunmbo Adeoye continues to inspire many with her message of healing, faith, forgiveness, and the power of divine purpose in reshaping life’s most painful moments.
