COCOBOD refutes claim of sponsoring Black Stars

The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has refuted allegations regarding its sponsorship of the Ghana national football team through a GH¢12 million donation.

In an official statement, COCOBOD characterised the claims that it misappropriated funds designated for cocoa farmers to finance the national team as “false, misleading, and without any factual basis”.

The Board firmly asserted that it has not sponsored the Ghana national football team nor has it redirected resources meant for cocoa farmers for this purpose.

“At no point has COCOBOD diverted funds meant for farmer payments to support the Black Stars,” the notice emphasised.

COCOBOD reiterated its dedication to its primary responsibility of prioritising the welfare of cocoa farmers, which includes timely payments for cocoa purchases, the provision of necessary inputs and extension services, and ongoing investment in the cocoa sector.

The Board called on the public to dismiss the circulating claims and to depend exclusively on official COCOBOD communication channels for accurate and verified information.

This statement arises amidst increased public scrutiny regarding funding distributions and support for national initiatives, as COCOBOD aims to reassure stakeholders, especially cocoa farmers, that their interests are of utmost importance.
