According to our reporter, the Kuje Magistrate’s Court in Abuja has granted bail to activist and publisher Omoyele Sowore, human rights lawyer Aloy Ejimakor, and Prince Emmanuel Kanu, the brother of detained IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu.
The ruling, reported by The PUNCH on October 24, 2025, also covered ten other defendants accused of participating in the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest held in Abuja on October 20. Each defendant was granted ₦500,000 bail and must provide two sureties of equal financial standing.
According to our reporter, Ejimakor, Emmanuel Kanu, and several others had earlier been remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre following their arrest during the protest, while Sowore was detained on October 23 at the Federal High Court, where he had gone to show solidarity with Nnamdi Kanu.
Civil rights groups have since praised the court’s decision, describing it as a bold step in protecting citizens’ constitutional rights to peaceful protest and free expression.
