Court sentences 18-year-old boy to six months imprisonment for stealing pregnant goat in Kaduna

A customary court in Kafanchan, Kaduna, has sentenced an 18-year-old boy, Gado Adamu, to five months’ imprisonment for stealing a pregnant goat.

 

Adamu was also charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, contrary to sections 345 and 270 of the Kaduna State Penalty Code Law.

 

When the charge was read to Adamu, he pleaded guilty and begged for leniency.

 

Delivering her ruling on March 18, the presiding judge, Patience Baryat, sentenced Adamu to three months in prison for unlawful possession of a weapon.

 

She, however, gave the convict the option of a N20,000 fine.

 

Ms Baryat also sentenced him to two months’ imprisonment or a fine of N10,000 for theft.

 

Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Favour Solomon, told the court that the matter was reported at the Kafanchan Divisional Police Station on February 2.

 

Mr Solomon said that Adamu was apprehended by some people in Zankan village with the pregnant she-goat worth N160,000.

 

He said Adamu was also caught with a dane gun without a licence.

 

Meanwhile, the Niger State Police Command has arrested one Abubakar Lawal (pictured) of Dzukogi Esso area of Bida for stealing a goat. 

 

According to the command spokesperson, Wasiu Abiodun, the suspect was caught with a goat on March 3, 2026 and when questioned, he confessed that the goat belonged to someone behind the sawmill.

 

He said he decided to steal the goat with the intention of selling the animal.
