Late on the night of September 3, 2025, tragedy struck the Okowori family when 29-year-old Deborah Okowori was reportedly stabbed to death by her ex-boyfriend. Her father, Mr. James Okowori, has now shared the heartbreaking details of how he first received the call that changed his life forever.
In an emotional interview with Punch TV, Mr. Okowori revealed that at about 11:59 p.m., his elder brother called from Benue State — a call that immediately filled him with dread. “The moment I saw his call at that late hour, I knew something was wrong,” he recalled.
He explained that his brother struggled to break the devastating news, as the family was unsure how to tell him what had happened to his daughter. “He told me his daughter, Juliet, was crying and didn’t know how to say what had happened to Deborah. Everyone was afraid because it was something no one could easily say,” Mr. Okowori said.
The grieving father further shared that Deborah had been in a troubled relationship with the suspect before her death. According to him, the relationship had become abusive, with frequent arguments and physical violence. “The boy became very violent. Most times, he would beat her — sometimes even using a power bank to hit her,” he lamented.
