Did President Tinubu Stop 5-Year Visa Entry for US Citizens? Presidency Breaks Silence

According to a NewsVista reporter, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially debunked claims that Nigeria has stopped issuing 5-year multiple-entry visas to United States citizens.

In a statement released by Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, the government described the reports as fake news and confirmed that no such visa ban exists.

Tinubu’s administration reaffirmed its commitment to international agreements and reciprocity in visa policies, adding that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has made no changes affecting U.S. visa privileges.

While the U.S. recently tightened its visa rules for Nigerians, the Tinubu-led government is actively engaging American authorities to ensure balanced and respectful treatment for both nations.

As part of ongoing reforms, the federal government has introduced a 90-day e-visa, replacing the problematic visa-on-arrival process. The new system offers digital approval within 48 hours for short business or tourist trips, boosting transparency and efficiency.

The e-visa aligns with Tinubu’s push to attract investment, improve tourism, and ease business travel — a move the U.S. has yet to reciprocate for Nigerian travelers.

Despite policy differences, Tinubu’s administration pledges to continue diplomatic dialogue with the U.S., aiming to strengthen the longstanding ties between both countries.
