Effiong Reacts After Atiku’s Aide Said Delegates Will Settle AA,Obi,Amaechi’s Fight Over ADC Ticket

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition, a new opposition alliance challenging President Bola Tinubu in 2027, is grappling with internal tensions over its ticket allocation.Featuring former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Labour Party candidate Peter Obi, and ex-Minister Rotimi Amaechi, the coalition hit a nerve when Atiku’s aide claimed “delegates will settle” the contest, as reported by Vanguard Newspapers today. Human rights lawyer Inibehe Effiong responded sharply on X , asking, “Delegates or Dollars?”

Effiong’s quip questions the integrity of the delegate-driven primary process, hinting at vote-buying—a concern backed by a 2022 BBC report and a 2021 Nigerian Institute of Social and Economic Research study, which found 70% of delegates admit to accepting bribes.

Here is what he wrote on his official X handle

The ADC, formed in July 2025, unites former rivals Atiku and Obi, with Premium Times noting zoning disputes Obi and Amaechi favor a Southern ticket, while Atiku pushes a Northern one.

With primaries looming, the outcome will test the ADC’s unity. Effiong’s question ignites debate on whether democracy or dollars will prevail, ashaping the coalition’s challenge to Tinubu.
