President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called for intensified efforts to protect young Nigerians from the dangers of drug abuse, urging authorities not to relent in tracking drug traffickers who endanger lives. “Focus on the young; don’t relent in tracking drug merchants who harm our people,” he said.
Speaking on November 14, 2025, the President highlighted that youth are particularly vulnerable to hard drugs, and safeguarding them is essential for the country’s social and economic wellbeing. He noted that drug trafficking harms not only individuals but also families, communities, and society at large.
Tinubu’s directive supports ongoing campaigns by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), led by Brigadier-General Buba Marwa (retd.), which has recorded significant successes, including the arrest of thousands of traffickers and the seizure of millions of kilogrammes of illicit substances.
The President emphasized the need for coordinated action involving law enforcement, community leaders, and civil society organizations to create a safe environment for young Nigerians. He stressed that consistent enforcement, public awareness, and rehabilitation programs are key to dismantling trafficking networks and preventing substance abuse.
By spotlighting the youth and reinforcing vigilance, Tinubu’s remarks underscore the government’s commitment to a safer, healthier future for Nigeria’s next generation.
