Former NBA star and champion Isaiah Rider was arrested earlier this month for allegedly violating a court order, TMZ Sports has learned.
Law enforcement sources confirmed that the 54 year old was taken into custody on December 4 and charged with one count of interfering with judicial proceedings.
According to court documents, Rider’s wife, Vanessa, filed for a protective order in July 2025. In the application, she alleged that Rider had been aggressive on multiple occasions, including an incident in which she claims he said, “You’re gonna get your ass slapped.” She also stated he warned, “Shut the f* up before I kick this door down and whoop you.”**
Vanessa said the comments were directed at her and her 15 year old son. Rider denied wrongdoing in his response to the court, writing, “I deny the allegations. She did this because I filed for divorce.”
Court records show that the former NBA guard filed for divorce in November 2024.

Vanessa was granted the protective order in July, requiring Rider to have no contact with her or their teenage son. He was also ordered to stay away from their home and the child’s school.
A hearing is scheduled for December 17, when the court will determine whether the protective order should remain in place.
Rider, known as “J.R.” during his playing career, was the 1994 NBA Slam Dunk Contest champion and played nine seasons in the league with Minnesota, Portland, Atlanta, the Los Angeles Lakers, and Denver. He won an NBA championship with the Lakers in 2001, though he was not included on the playoff roster.
