General Ataguba breaks silence, review reasons he would not have left Nigerian army with bitterness

Former Chief of Standards and Evaluation of the Nigerian Army, Major General James Ataguba, has broken his silence on his retirement, revealing why he chose to leave the military without bitterness despite the challenges surrounding his exit.

According to our reporter, Ataguba, who served in several key positions including Director of Peacekeeping Operations, said he had given his best to the Nigerian Army and felt nothing but gratitude for the opportunity to serve his country.

“I joined the Army to serve my fatherland, not for personal ambition,” he reportedly told close associates, explaining that resentment would only tarnish the memories of his years of service and sacrifice.

Ataguba, who was frequently redeployed during military reshuffles, surprised many observers by maintaining a calm and gracious outlook instead of expressing disappointment like some retired officers before him.

He praised the Army for shaping his leadership values and urged younger officers to focus on service and integrity rather than chasing ranks or positions.

His dignified attitude has since earned him respect among both serving and retired soldiers, who see him as a model of discipline, humility, and professionalism.
