Gunmen Attack Ondo Church, Kidnap Five Worshippers During Night Service

Gunmen attacked a church in the early hours of Wednesday in Uso, Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State, abducting five worshippers during a night service.

It was gathered that the gunmen invaded a branch of the Celestial Church of Christ around 1:00 a.m, and took the victims to an undisclosed location.

The spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, confirmed the development in a statement sent to journalists in Akure.

Jimoh said, “Upon receiving the report, operatives of the command, in collaboration with the Nigerian Army and local vigilante groups, immediately mobilised to the scene and commenced coordinated rescue operations.”.

According to him, one of the kidnapped worshippers has since been rescued, and a suspect connected to the attack has been arrested.

“As a result of sustained joint efforts, one of the kidnapped victims has been successfully rescued.

“Additionally, one suspect linked to the incident has been arrested and has made useful statements that are assisting with ongoing investigations.”

Jimoh added that security agencies are continuing efforts to rescue the remaining victims and track down others involved in the crime.

He also called on residents to stay calm, remain alert, and share any useful information that could help the authorities in their operations.
