He Kept Pleading He Wasn’t Among The Thieves, They Didn’t Listen. They Beat Him Until He Died-Police

An engineer, Solomon Ode, has reportedly been beaten to death by security guards after being wrongly accused of stealing at the Eko Atlantic construction site, according to Punch News on Friday, November 14, 2025.

Sources revealed that security personnel were pursuing suspected thieves attempting to steal iron rods when Ode, who was in the vicinity, was singled out. Despite repeatedly pleading his innocence, the guards allegedly refused to listen and continued assaulting him until he died. His body was later discovered floating by the riverbank.

Following public outrage, police arrested some of the security personnel involved after intervention by angry youths. The incident has sparked renewed concern over the dangers of mob justice and excessive force in Nigeria, with Ode joining the growing list of victims of vigilante actions.

A police source said, “He kept pleading that he wasn’t among them, but they refused to listen. They beat him until he died and left his body by the riverbank.” Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and the accountability of the security team involved.
