FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, says he did not mean his words when he called Naval officer, Lt. A.M Yerima, a f@@l.

Recall that Wike and Yerima had a faceoff on Tuesday, November 11 over a land in dispute in the FCT. Wike had claimed the land which belonged to a former Chief of Naval Staff was inappropriately acquired as it lacked the required documentation, He insisted that the building project that was ongoing on the land be stopped immediately. Yerima and his colleagues were however drafted to the parcel of land to protect the workers on site. This led to a faceoff between Wike and Yerima who insisted that himself and his team will not allow Wike and his team to stop the work going on on the land., He insisted he was acting on the order from his superiors. This infuriated Wike who hurled insults at him.

‘’Shut up your mouth, who does that? Will you keep quiet? Are you a big f@ol?’ You are a big f@ol’

Some Military personnel have condemned Wike for hurling insults at the Naval officer and even calling him a f@ol.

Responding to his critics, Wike at a press conference on Thursday, November 14, denied calling the officer a f@@l.

‘’Some people said I said the boy ‘you are a fool’. What I meant was this, you cannot be carrying out an illegal order, that is what I meant. I didn’t say ‘the military, you are a fool’. I couldn’t have said that. I know the role of the military. The role they have been playing in this country. What they have passed through in fighting insurgents and terrorism…I have always given my support to security agencies. As I came in as FCT Minister, go and see what I provided for them to fight and do their work.

The mere fact that you are an officer and you are doing what is wrong……it is like a professor in the University who will not allow young girls to rest or is always asking people everytime bring money for this or that and then when I see that Professor, I will tell him you are not supposed to be a professor at all. Even those who say you are a professor must be questioned ‘how did they give you?’ because you are carrying out something not expected of you.”
