According to her account, her mother passed away after a brief illness, leaving her and her younger brother alone. Less than a month later, their father abandoned the family, promising to return with money for food, but he has not been seen since. The siblings have since struggled with food insecurity and have dropped out of school due to lack of funds.
To survive, the girl says she asks neighbors and community members for assistance with food, which she prepares for her brother. A concerned neighbor eventually discovered the situation and has been helping feed the children, though he admits his own limited resources make it difficult to meet all their needs.
