President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has explained why he chose to cancel his trip to the G20 Summit in South Africa, highlighting the urgency of addressing the country’s rising insecurity. In a message shared on his verified Facebook page, the President emphasized his decision was made to personally coordinate efforts to protect Nigerians.
“You will recall that I cancelled my trip to the G20 summit in South Africa to enable me coordinate the security efforts at home,” Tinubu stated, stressing that the move allowed him to oversee operations following recent kidnappings and attacks across the country.
He commended the nation’s security agencies for their determination and collaboration, noting that the concerted efforts of troops and intelligence operatives had successfully led to the rescue of abducted worshippers in Kwara State. “Thanks to the efforts of our security forces over the last few days, all the 38 worshippers abducted in Eruku, Kwara State have been rescued,” the President reported.
Tinubu described the outcome as a relief for the affected families and the entire nation. He further reiterated the importance of continuous vigilance and cooperation between citizens and security personnel to combat insecurity, emphasizing that safeguarding lives remains a central priority of his administration.
