Karen, a woman from Muranga, has shared the heart-wrenching story of losing her one-year-old child at the hands of her cousin, and how she has chosen to forgive despite the tragedy.
Karen explained that in 2014, she planned to return to Sudan for work and asked her cousin to care for her child during her absence. She continued to send money and stayed in touch with daily calls. However, after returning home, she was shocked to learn that her baby had passed away. A government postmortem later confirmed that the child died from injuries caused by beatings.
Her cousin was arrested shortly after the incident, remained in remand for a year during court proceedings, and was eventually sentenced to life imprisonment. The loss left Karen with years of bitterness and grief.
Five years later, Karen received a call from her cousin seeking forgiveness. Initially, she was not ready to forgive, but after finding faith in Christ, she decided to let go of her anger. She now expresses a desire for her cousin to be released if possible, hoping it could allow reconciliation with the rest of the family and support for her remaining children.
Karen’s story is a testament to resilience, forgiveness, and the personal strength required to overcome unimaginable loss.
