Shehu Musa Gabam, National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has raised concerns over Nigeria’s declining political decorum, highlighting disturbing videos involving public officials. The report was published following Gabam’s appearance on SYMFONI TV.
Gabam condemned the circulation of the video showing the Deputy Speaker of Kebbi State, Muhammad Sama’ila-Bagudo, in compromising circumstances. “I just saw yesterday a video of a deputy speaker of Kebbi State being streamed only with pants, terribly. I have seen videos that are nasty as if we are a banana republic,” he said, warning that such content threatens the dignity of the political space.
The deputy speaker had been abducted by suspected bandits in Bagudo Local Government Area on October 31 and was released on November 8, subsequently reuniting with his family after receiving medical attention. Gabam emphasized that exploiting such incidents for public humiliation is damaging to democratic norms and public trust.
He urged citizens, political actors, and social media users to resist sensationalism, prioritize respect, and uphold accountability in public discourse. “We must demand better,” Gabam said, “because politics is about service, not spectacle.”
