I Stabbed Somebody And He Died,I Was Arrested And Sentenced To Death For Murder -Pastor Abel Asiagwu

Pastor Abel Asiagwu has recounted his harrowing experience of being sentenced to death for murder in his youth, sharing details of the incident and his eventual release.

In an interview with the Lucky Udu Experience, Asiagwu revealed that in 1977, at the age of 20, he attended a party with three friends where alcohol was involved. During the event, he became involved in a fight and accidentally stabbed someone, resulting in the person’s death.

He said he was subsequently arrested and spent 11 months in an awaiting-trial cell before being convicted and sentenced to death for murder. Upon appeal, the sentence was overturned, and the court instead convicted him of manslaughter, sentencing him to three years in prison.

Reflecting on the experience, Pastor Asiagwu said, “So we got to the party, I continued to drink. Somewhere along the line there was a fight, I stabbed somebody and he died so that was how I was arrested. I was just 20 years old. I spent 11 months at the awaiting trial before I was convicted and sentenced to death for murder.”
