“I Thought It Was a Mistake” — Nkechi Blessing Sunday Opens Up on Mo Abudu Movie Role

Nollywood actress Nkechi Blessing Sunday has opened up about how she secured a role in the highly anticipated film The Secret Lives of Baba Segi’s Wives, a project spearheaded by renowned filmmaker Mo Abudu.

The actress shared her excitement and disbelief following the official announcement of the movie’s cast, which includes top industry names such as Faithia Williams, Nancy Isime, Uzor Arukwe, Mike Ezuruonye, and Blessing Obasi.

For Nkechi, being part of such a star-studded production marks a significant milestone in her acting career.

Taking to social media, the actress recounted how she initially reacted when she received the call to audition for the role. 

According to her, she was convinced the invitation might have been a mistake. The thought of being considered for a major production under Mo Abudu seemed almost too good to be true, leaving her both shocked and thrilled.

She revealed that she immediately sprang into action, determined not to miss the opportunity. From waking up earlier than usual to preparing herself mentally for the audition, Nkechi said she did everything possible to make a strong impression.

Despite trying to maintain composure during the audition, she admitted that internally she was overwhelmed with excitement.

Reflecting on her journey in the film industry, Nkechi Blessing noted that the moment felt like a long-awaited breakthrough. She spoke candidly about facing criticism in the past, including being labeled a “failed actress” by some. 

However, she expressed confidence that her role in the upcoming film would silence critics and reaffirm her place in Nollywood.

She also shared her experience meeting Mo Abudu for the first time, describing the media mogul as warm, kind, and welcoming. 

The encounter, she said, further inspired her and reinforced her belief that she was stepping into a new phase of her career filled with bigger opportunities.

The Secret Lives of Baba Segi’s Wives is based on the 2010 novel by Lola Shoneyin, which delves into the complexities of a polygamous household, exploring themes of rivalry, secrecy, and family dynamics. 

The adaptation is being produced by EbonyLife Films in collaboration with other major production partners, further raising expectations for its release.

The film is scheduled to premiere in cinemas in December 2026, both in Nigeria and internationally. With its compelling storyline and impressive cast lineup, it is already being touted as one of the most anticipated Nollywood releases of the year.
