Afrobeats sensation Bella Shmurda has opened up about a period in his life when financial mismanagement nearly led him to bankruptcy.
In a candid conversation with YouTuber Korty EO, the singer revealed that his extravagant spending habits, combined with the pressure to maintain a luxurious lifestyle for himself and his friends, took a heavy toll on his finances.
“I had money, but I wasn’t careful with it,” Bella Shmurda admitted. “I used to buy things without thinking about whether I actually needed them. I wanted to live big, but I didn’t realize that being reckless with money could have serious consequences.”
The singer explained that he often spent excessively to accommodate the lifestyles of his circle of friends. At times, he supported up to ten people simultaneously, ensuring that everyone enjoyed the high-end experiences he believed were necessary to maintain social status.
He also recounted buying multiple cars at the same time just so his friends could travel together in convoys, highlighting the scale of his spending.
“That period taught me some hard lessons,” he said. “I was living a life that looked glamorous from the outside, but internally, it was draining me. I had to learn quickly that financial freedom is not just about earning money; it’s about knowing how to manage it wisely.”
Bella Shmurda stressed that the experience shaped his current approach to wealth management. Today, he carefully considers each financial decision, weighing the long-term benefits rather than indulging in immediate gratification.
“Every move I make now with my money is calculated. I want to avoid the mistakes of the past,” he said.
The singer also encouraged young artists and fans to develop a sense of financial discipline early on. According to him, success in the entertainment industry can be fleeting, and without careful management, earnings can quickly disappear. “Many people think that making money in music is easy, but it’s easy to lose it too.
