Former Anambra State Governor and presidential candidate Peter Obi has recounted how Nigeria’s courts consistently ruled in his favor during key moments of his political career, emphasizing the independence and integrity of the judiciary.
In an interview with Symfoni TV, Obi explained that he never had personal connections with the judges involved in his cases, yet the courts delivered impartial decisions based on facts. “I went to court when I was impeached. I went to court after my election without meeting the five judges. They gave judgment in my favor,” he said.
He further highlighted that in election disputes, he approached the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court without knowing any of the judges personally. Each time, the courts ruled in his favor, reinforcing his confidence in the judiciary’s ability to act independently and uphold democratic processes.
Reflecting on his experiences, Obi noted, “If there’s one person who has benefited from the media, I’ll count myself as one. That’s why I keep telling people that the one man who benefited from the Nigerian judiciary, I’ll count myself as one… The seven Supreme Court judges agreed with me.”
His statements underscore how judicial intervention can serve as a crucial check in political disputes and protect the rule of law in Nigeria.
