I Will Cheat On My Wife And If She Cheats On Me, I Will Show Her That I Am From… – Nigerian Man Says

A Nigerian man identified as Henry has sparked controversy online after declaring that he would be unfaithful to his wife and, should she retaliate, he would “show her that he hails from Nsukka.”

Henry made this statement while reacting to a post by a social media user, Adaeze, about Nsukka men and their alleged tendencies toward infidelity.

Adaeze’s post delved into a traditional belief rooted in Nsukka, Enugu State. According to this age-old custom, any married woman who cheats on her husband is said to be struck with instant madness, a claim tied to the invocation of deities in the region.

Criticizing this cultural norm, Adaeze wrote:

“And they will bring deities to back them up. I pity women who are poor and don’t have a voice because they want to be called married women. Iberiberism of the highest order. Anyways, most Nsukka women will not complain even if you carry the girls into the house. They don’t want to leave their husbands’ houses because they are jobless and need your feeding and accommodation. May we not settle for Nkịta Ara ndi Nsukka.”

The post has since sparked debates about double standards, cultural practices, and gender inequality within traditional marriages. While some users have defended the culture, others have condemned it as oppressive and outdated
