According to our report, former Kaduna Central Senator Shehu Sani has openly criticized Donald Trump’s recent claim that Christians are facing genocide in Nigeria, describing the U.S. former president’s remarks as “misleading and divisive.”
Reacting via X, Sani defended Nigeria’s sovereignty, saying that if Muslims in the country choose to live by Sharia and blasphemy laws, it remains an internal affair. He argued that Western powers like the U.S. have no moral right to interfere, noting that similar laws exist in nations such as Kuwait, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia without sanctions.
Sani dismissed the “Christian persecution” narrative, stressing that both Muslims and Christians have suffered equally from banditry and insurgency over the past 15 years. He accused the U.S. of double standards and urged Washington to offer constructive support instead of threats.
His remarks come as Nigeria’s government and religious leaders continue to reject Trump’s “Country of Particular Concern” designation. Analysts say Sani’s bold response reflects growing resistance to what many Nigerians see as foreign meddling in local religious and legal affairs.
