Prominent Nigerian activist and former Country Director of ActionAid Nigeria, Ene Obi, has weighed in on the controversy surrounding Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, insisting that her suspension should not override the will of her constituents. Speaking on Saturday, November 22, 2025, Obi emphasized the importance of fairness and transparency in Nigeria’s electoral process.
Obi argued that the key issue is the validity of the mandate given to Akpoti-Uduaghan by voters in Kogi Central, which should take precedence over internal legislative disciplinary actions. “In the election itself, fairness and let the votes of people count,” she stated, urging that democratic principles be upheld.
Challenging any attempts to invalidate the senator’s position, Obi asked, “If the votes of the people count and Natasha’s constituency want her back, why should she lose her seat?” She highlighted that the current political disputes surrounding the senator reflect broader systemic concerns within the electoral and legislative processes.
Obi concluded by calling for respect for the electorate’s decision, emphasizing that the voices of constituents should guide political outcomes rather than partisan or internal Senate conflicts.
