Former presidential aide Reno Omokri has drawn a clear distinction between Nnamdi Kanu and Sunday Igboho, stressing that Igboho never encouraged his followers to attack soldiers, police, or civilians.
In a post on his verified X account on November 22, 2025, Omokri criticised comparisons between Kanu and Igboho, calling them “vacuous and ingenious.” He explained that prosecuting Kanu for treason while Igboho faces similar charges would not amount to a double standard.
Omokri emphasised that the key difference lies in the use of violence. While Kanu allegedly incited attacks against security personnel, Igboho’s actions were framed around self-defence against killer herders and community threats. The activist highlighted Igboho’s peaceful advocacy for an independent Oodua Republic, asserting that it should not be equated directly with Kanu’s prosecution.
“The basic difference between Sunday Igboho and Nnamdi Kanu is that Igboho never asked his followers to kill soldiers or police officers or any military or paramilitary officer or civilian working for the Nigerian state,” Omokri stated.
