“I’m Just Waiting for My Time”: Aminu Dantata’s Emotional Final Words Stir Reflections on Life, Legacy, and Letting Go

Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata, the iconic Nigerian business mogul and elder statesman, passed away at the age of 94 — but not without leaving behind a deeply emotional parting message that has touched hearts across the nation.

According to a NewsVista reporter, Dantata had long prepared himself for the final chapter of life, speaking with profound clarity and peace about his readiness to depart. In a rare and intimate moment during a 2022 visit by now-Vice President Kashim Shettima, Dantata spoke softly but firmly:

“Honestly, as I am right now, I am just waiting for my time. I no longer enjoy life anymore. I hope I depart this world in good faith.”

These words, shared in the presence of friends and political leaders, offered a window into the mind of a man who had seen the peaks of wealth, power, and influence — but who, at the twilight of his journey, sought only peace, forgiveness, and spiritual closure.

A Heart Full of Forgiveness

During the meeting, which was also attended by former Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje and respected northern figures like General Lawal Jafaru Isah and Tanko Yakasai, Dantata asked for forgiveness from anyone he may have wronged and, in turn, forgave all who may have wronged him.

“I hope I did not offend anyone in life. If I did, I pray they forgive me. As for those who have wronged me, I have forgiven them all,” he said with sincerity that struck a chord with those present.

His quiet reflections were tinged with the sorrow of solitude. “I am now the only one left in my family living with grandchildren,” he said, expressing a deep sense of emotional isolation after outliving many of his peers and loved ones.

Still Praying for Nigeria

Though personally ready for the hereafter, Dantata’s love for Nigeria remained unwavering. He prayed for the country’s peace, unity, and divine direction, stating:

“May God not leave us with our efforts alone. We pray for His continued guidance and protection.”

His humility and unwavering faith left a lasting impression — not only on those who were physically present but now, on an entire nation reflecting on the life of a man who helped shape Nigeria’s economic and philanthropic landscape.

Final Journey to the Holy Land

Alhaji Aminu Dantata passed away on Saturday, June 29, 2024. His burial, approved by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, will take place in the holy city of Madinah, according to his son Sanusi Dantata, who made the announcement on social media.

As tributes pour in from every corner of Nigeria and beyond, many are not only mourning his death but also celebrating his dignity, kindness, and generosity — values that continue to define his legacy.

From business empires to quiet acts of philanthropy, Dantata leaves behind far more than wealth — he leaves behind wisdom, grace, and a timeless reminder that even giants walk humbly toward the end.
