In Many Traditional Rulers Houses In Northern Nigeria, Christian Girls Were Given To Marriage -Hayab

According to our report, Reverend Joseph Hayab, Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the 19 northern states, has accused some traditional rulers of forcibly marrying off Christian girls without parental consent. Speaking to Nigeria Info FM, Hayab revealed that families are powerless as courts and authorities fail to intervene, leaving parents to watch in despair.

Hayab condemned the government’s inaction, noting that repeated petitions and complaints by church leaders have gone unanswered. He warned that neglecting these issues could worsen tensions.

The CAN chairman also shared personal experiences of discrimination: his daughter, despite scoring 268 in JAMB, was denied admission to Ahmadu Bello University, while others with lower scores were admitted, and his wife was issued a “settler” certificate instead of an indigene form. Hayab described these incidents as evidence of systemic bias against Christians in the region.
