I’ve been doing my best to provide for my family, but they’re making me suffer for no reason-Tanko

Ali Abdulrahman Tanko, who was recently sentenced to several months of community service by Sharia Court 1 at Kofar Kudu in Municipal Local Government Area, has stated that he never struck his wife with a pestle, contrary to claims made during the court proceedings. According to a report by Daily Trust News, Tanko said the incident involved a minor push that accidentally caused his wife to fall onto an open drawer, resulting in injury.

Tanko explained that the disagreement began when his wife asked him for money to buy detergent. “I was still lying in bed when she abruptly removed my blanket and began yelling at me, claiming that the bed did not belong to me. I chose not to respond harshly, assuming she was under stress while caring for our infant,” he said.

He emphasized, “All I did was push her, and she accidentally landed on the open drawer, which caused the injury. I never used any pestle on her.” Tanko added that the pharmacist who attended to his wife could confirm that her wounds did not resemble injuries caused by a pestle.

The father of one also expressed frustration over his household responsibilities, saying, “I bought a 50kg bag of rice, and within two weeks, they said it was finished. Imagine—only me and my wife, plus a baby of a few months. I also bought a mini truck of firewood for her traditional postnatal bath, and in two weeks, that too was gone. I’ve been doing my best to provide for my small family, but they’re making me suffer for no reason.”
