Jubilation as Tinubu Gives Appointment to Former Governor

According to a NewsVista report, President Bola Tinubu has appointed former Nasarawa State Governor, Senator Tanko Al-Makura, as the new chairman of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) governing board.

The announcement was made official on Tuesday, July 1, during an inauguration ceremony held in Abuja and led by the Minister of State for Education, Olatunji Alausa. Al-Makura was sworn in alongside other appointees to federal parastatals and educational institutions under the ministry.

The minister congratulated the new officials, urging them to lead with vision, accountability, and integrity. He emphasized that these appointments reflect national recognition of their past achievements and a renewed call to serve.

This fresh round of appointments comes just weeks after Tinubu named former Senate President Ken Nnamani as chairman of the Nigerian Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), and ex-SGF Anyim Pius Anyim as head of the National Merit Awards.

Others recently appointed include former Katsina Governor Ibrahim Shema (FCDA), former Edo Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu (Nigerian Institute of Sport), and labour activist Isa Aremu (Michael Imoudu Institute for Labour Studies).

These appointments come amid growing opposition claims that Tinubu is steering Nigeria toward a one-party system. But the president insists the wave of political alignments reflects public confidence in his leadership—not coercion.
