The shocking incident occurred shortly after Barau’s Orji Kalu netted a 69th-minute equaliser to bring the score to 1-1, sparking outrage among sections of the home fans at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina.
Barau FC confirmed the attack in real time through their official X (formerly Twitter) handle.
> “70’ The match is temporarily halted following an attack on Barau FC player, Nana Abraham. Katsina United | 1-1 | Barau FC,”
the club posted moments after the incident.
Just a minute earlier, the club had celebrated the equalising goal, posting:

Eyewitness footage and photos circulating on social media showed Nana Abraham bleeding profusely from his neck as teammates and officials rushed to his aid. Security personnel quickly intervened to control the situation, and the match was halted for several minutes before being resumed under heavy security presence.
The fixture eventually ended 1-1 after normal time, but the post-match atmosphere remained tense, with fans and players visibly shaken.
Meanwhile, Barau FC has reportedly demanded a full investigation and called on the league authorities to take decisive disciplinary action.
