KWAM 1’s Awujale Lineage Claim Declared “Null, Void” By Ruling House

The Fusengbuwa Ruling House of Ijebu-Ode has formally dismissed the lineage claim submitted by Fuji icon Wasiu Ayinde Marshall (KWAM 1), stating that the genealogy form he presented for the Awujale succession process is “null, void, and of no consequence.”

In a letter dated December 11, 2025, and addressed directly to the musician, the ruling house said its findings uncovered no evidence linking him to the Jadiara Royal House or the wider Fusengbuwa lineage, which is next in line to produce the new Awujale of Ijebuland.

Signed by the Chairman of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House, Otunba Lateef Owoyemi, the letter criticised the authentication of KWAM 1’s form. It stated that the document was endorsed by Adetayo Abayomi Oduneye, described as “a purported family unit head” who, according to the house, is not recognised as a member of the Jadiara Royal House.

The ruling house also questioned the timeline of the document, noting that the certification was dated December 8—two days before KWAM 1 signed the form on December 10—labeling it a “presigned” submission.

“Our extensive investigation has not revealed any proof of your membership of the Jadiara Royal House or indeed that of Fusengbuwa Ruling House,” the letter stated.

The house further stressed that Oduneye had “no locus standi” to certify any genealogical documents on behalf of the family.

“Consequently, the completed linkage lineage form is hereby declared null, void and of no consequence. For the avoidance of doubt, your claim to the membership of Fusengbuwa Ruling House is rejected and the completed form is of no consequence,” the statement added.

This development comes amid increased anticipation over the selection of a new Awujale following the July passing of Oba Sikiru Adetona, who reigned for 65 years.

Earlier on Thursday, members of the ruling house had publicly distanced themselves from the musician, insisting he is neither known to the family nor qualified to enter the selection process.

KWAM 1 had submitted his form after receiving an extension beyond the official December 5 deadline, a move that surprised many given his long-established ties to the Fidipote Ruling House, where he holds the title of Olori Omooba of Ijebuland.

In his submission, the musician claimed descent from the Setejoye unit of the Jadiara Royal House through his father, Adisa Adesanya Anifowoshe, with Oduneye countersigning the documents. However, leaders of the Jadiara and Bubiade family units have since denied any ancestral connection to him or his father.

The Fusengbuwa Ruling House held an emergency meeting on Thursday to review the musician’s claim and address the controversies arising from his application.
