Residents of Danjanku community in Malumfashi Local Government Area, Katsina State, have staged a protest on the Gidan Mutum Daya-Malumfashi road following a renewed wave of bandit attacks that left one person dead and five others abducted during a late-night raid on Monday.
Aminu Umar, a local resident, shared his family’s heartbreaking ordeal. “Last year, my child was abducted and I paid a ransom of five million naira. This year, my wife has also been kidnapped, and the bandits are demanding the same amount. We are appealing for government intervention. People are being killed, abducted, and our livestock rustled. We live in constant fear. We can’t even sleep in our own homes,” he told Daily Trust.
The latest attack comes just weeks after authorities signed the Kakumi peace accord, aimed at restoring calm in the region. Many residents now describe the agreement as ineffective, saying that banditry continues unchecked.
During Monday’s raid, attackers reportedly stormed the village around midnight and carried out operations for nearly five hours. Despite repeated calls to security forces, no intervention was recorded, leaving community members frustrated and angry.
In response, youths from the community blocked roads and set tires ablaze, accusing the government of failing to protect their lives and property. Extra photos and full analysis of the incident are available on Newshost Buzz.
