Nollywood actress Opeyemi Aiyeola has added her voice to the growing concerns over insecurity in Nigeria, urging her colleagues in the entertainment industry to take a more thoughtful approach to their political choices.

Her comments come in the wake of a fresh wave of violence in Jos, the capital of Plateau State, where a recent attack left several residents dead and others injured.

In a video shared online, the actress expressed disappointment over what she described as a lack of sustained attention to the tragedy.

She noted that incidents like the Jos attack often fade quickly from public discourse, especially during politically charged periods, when conversations tend to shift toward campaigns and power struggles.

For her, this pattern is troubling, as it risks normalising violence and reducing the urgency with which such matters are addressed.

Aiyeola used the moment to call on fellow entertainers to reflect deeply on their influence, particularly in times like these. She emphasized that public figures have a responsibility that goes beyond endorsements or affiliations, urging them to prioritize conscience over personal gain.

According to her, decisions driven by financial benefits, social status, or political alignment should never outweigh the collective well-being of society.

While making it clear that she was not directly criticizing any individual, the actress encouraged her colleagues to think about the long-term consequences of their actions.

She stressed the importance of considering future generations, suggesting that the choices made today especially by those in the public eye could shape the direction of the country for years to come.

Her comments followed reports of a violent incident in the Angwan Rukuba area of Jos North Local Government Area, where gunmen reportedly attacked residents under the cover of darkness.

The assault has once again highlighted the fragile security situation in parts of the region, sparking fear among residents and prompting renewed calls for stronger protective measures.

In response to the attack, state authorities moved to impose a temporary curfew in affected areas, while security agencies intensified efforts to restore calm and investigate the incident.

Despite these steps, many Nigerians continue to express concern about the recurring nature of such attacks and the seeming difficulty in achieving lasting peace.

Aiyeola’s remarks have since resonated with many on social media, with users praising her for speaking out on an issue that affects ordinary citizens across the country.

Others have echoed her call for accountability, not just from politicians but also from influential figures who help shape public opinion.

The situation in Jos serves as yet another reminder of the complex challenges facing Nigeria, where issues of security, governance, and public trust remain deeply intertwined.

For voices like Opeyemi Aiyeola’s, the hope is that more individuals especially those with large platforms will begin to use their influence to advocate for justice, peace, and responsible leadership.

As conversations continue, her message underscores a broader point: that beyond politics and personal interests, there is a shared responsibility to stand for what is right and to ensure that the value of human life is never overshadowed by ambition or convenience.
