A Nigerian man identified as Chidiebere has shared why he stopped attending a church service led by Pastor David Ibiyeomie in Port Harcourt, saying a remark made during the sermon left him deeply uncomfortable. His account, posted on X (formerly Twitter), has sparked conversations about faith, personal conviction, and civic responsibility.
According to Chidiebere, the incident happened shortly after a public protest demanding better governance in Nigeria. He explained that while he had joined the protest on Saturday, what he heard in church the next day changed his perception of the pastor’s message.
He recalled Pastor Ibiyeomie saying during the sermon that, “While on evangelism, he saw poor people gathered in the name of protest.” He said the statement made him feel judged for participating in a peaceful action meant to push for national improvement. Feeling unable to reconcile the comment with his beliefs, he quietly walked out and never returned.
Chidiebere noted that the experience created tension between his faith and his commitment to advocating for a better Nigeria. His story has since gained attention online, with many Nigerians sharing similar sentiments about balancing spirituality with social activism.
He concluded that staying true to one’s convictions is sometimes necessary, even when it means stepping away from an environment that feels dismissive of sincere efforts toward positive change. More reactions and follow-up discussions on this story are available on Newshost Buzz.
