Popular Nigerian comedian Destalker has revealed that before finding success in comedy, he attempted internet fraud but failed due to his kindhearted nature.
The revelation came during a recent episode of the In-house Gist podcast, where the comedian shared insights into his journey from a challenging past to becoming one of Nigeria’s most recognized comedic talents.
Destalker explained that his introduction to internet fraud came through a friend, now a Christian cleric, who encouraged him to join the illicit venture.
“Before I left Enugu, I tried internet fraud with one of my friends, who is now a pastor, but I wasn’t successful at it,” he said.
The comedian added that during their early attempts, they would book night sessions at cyber cafes for N250. However, Destalker admitted he couldn’t always afford the fee, and his friend often paid for him.
While his friend focused on scamming online victims, Destalker said he would spend his time chatting with family, friends, and old schoolmates on Facebook, often falling asleep before carrying out any schemes. “I couldn’t defraud a person because I am kindhearted,” he confessed.
This moral barrier, he explained, steered him away from internet fraud and pushed him toward comedy, a career he felt aligned with his destiny.
Reflecting on his growth, Destalker emphasized that the challenges he faced early in life helped build his resilience and confidence.
“Because of all that I went through, I have grown so confident that no one can stop me from achieving my goal,” he stated.
His candidness also touched on professional struggles in the comedy industry. He recounted that some comedians claimed he wouldn’t succeed without their support.
“I told them that I would blow even without performing there. And I did,” Destalker affirmed, highlighting his perseverance.
He went further to critique some of the comedians who initially doubted him, noting that several of them have since faded from relevance, while he continues to thrive.
