Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, has accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of unlawfully and personally orchestrating her suspension from the National Assembly.
Speaking in an interview with journalist Adeola Fayehun on Saturday, May 31, 2025, the senator described the March 6 suspension as “premeditated and politically motivated.”
“The way he handled it—like I was a staff in his living room—was not only unlawful but also degrading,” Natasha said.

What Happened?
Natasha explained that she had merely raised a Point of Privilege on the Senate floor, citing Chapter 4, Item 9b of the Senate Rules, which requires urgent attention.
“Instead of a fair hearing, Akpabio ordered the Sergeant-at-Arms to remove me, and the Clerk was immediately told to prepare a suspension letter. It was a pre-written script,” she claimed.
Political Retaliation?
The senator also alleged that the move came just a day after she submitted a petition containing sensitive allegations against powerful interests in the Senate.
“The ethics report they cited was a smokescreen. My suspension was a clear retaliation,” she stated.
Legal and Political Fallout
Natasha has vowed to challenge the suspension, insisting that no Senate President has the authority to unilaterally suspend an elected senator.
Her comments have sparked renewed debate about parliamentary overreach, internal accountability, and the rights of lawmakers to voice dissent.
