Neymar has suggested the 2026 FIFA World Cup could mark the end of his international career, raising uncertainty over his future with both club and country.
The 32-year-old was left out of Brazil’s squad for the March 2026 friendlies against France and Croatia due to ongoing fitness concerns and limited match readiness. Brazil head coach Carlo Ancelotti explained the decision by stating he is selecting only players who are “100% fit” and actively competing at the highest level.
Speaking candidly about his future, Neymar admitted he may already be approaching the final phase of his career.

“This is my last World Cup… I don’t even know if this will be my last year with the national team,” Neymar revealed.
“My career is coming to an END and I have to know that,” he added.
Neymar recently returned to Santos FC but has struggled with recurring muscle fatigue following his recovery from a serious ACL injury sustained in late 2023. His fitness issues have raised questions about his ability to maintain consistent performances at the highest level.

“I always tell my family and friends: Enjoy as much as you can because it will end,” he said.

His comments have sparked fresh debate about whether he will lead Brazil in one final push at the 2026 World Cup or step away sooner as injuries continue to take their toll.
