Niger: ‘Most Of These Students Were Relocated To Schools Where The Locations Are Safe’ – Abiodun

Niger State Police have clarified that not all schools in the state have been closed following recent security threats. Many students were relocated to safer locations as a precautionary measure, authorities said, emphasizing that the strategy is part of a proactive response to prevent further incidents.

In an interview with Arise TV, Police Public Relations Officer Wasiu Abiodun explained, “Most of these students were relocated to schools where the locations are safe. This is a proactive measure to prevent a reoccurrence, and this is a measure being taken by the government in collaboration with security agencies.”

Abiodun acknowledged the challenges posed by Niger State’s vast size, noting that maintaining security across 25 local government areas with limited personnel requires careful allocation of resources. “Niger State is the largest state in the country with the highest land mass. We are using what we have judiciously to police the state to the best of our ability. Nevertheless, this is a national issue,” he said.

He added that specific boarding schools in Kangi, Rafi, and parts of Mariga Local Government Areas have been temporarily closed due to their vulnerability, citing residential facilities as potential soft targets for terrorists.
