Bishop David Oyedepo has declared that Nigeria will not become an Islamic state, assuring Christians that the country will overcome current security threats. His reaction comes after armed attackers invaded a Catholic school in Niger State and abducted more than 300 students, sparking national concern.
In a video posted on the official X account of Winners Chapel International on Sunday, Oyedepo said the recent attacks represent an ongoing spiritual and physical battle, but insisted that the plans of violent extremists would not succeed. He emphasized that the “jihadist roar” would ultimately be silenced by divine intervention.
According to him, the Church remains unstoppable despite rising insecurity. Oyedepo stated that the “gate of hell” would not prevail, adding that no extremist movement can hinder the progress of God’s work in Nigeria. His remarks were interpreted as reassurance to citizens worried about escalating attacks on schools and religious institutions.
Near the end of the video, Oyedepo affirmed: “Nigeria will never become an Islamic state. The battle is raging and Islamic jihadists are roaring, but we belong to a higher realm of authority.”
